April 12 ~ Saturday

The bottom fell out of the sky in the morning, forcing a one-hour torrential rain-lightning-thunder delay. The show management, volunteers, and our own HPF competitors weathered the storm well, though. We posted a series of firsts.
Jessica & Kartouche, below, rode Fourth Level Test 1 for a top score of 63.488 and their first 8 on Gaits. The judge found Kartouche to be a "lovely horse," and gave 7s for Rider, Impulsion, and several movements - shoulder-ins, half pass, collected and counter canters.

Below, Pallas and Jodie debuted Second Level Test 4, and received 7s for their canter work and lead changes. Earlier in the day Jodie scored a 63.158 on First Level Test 4. Collective Marks included 7s in Submission and Rider. The judge commented on Pallas' "very nice straightness and balance."Jodie and Pallas
Cindy began competing Jaimsie at Third Level in February. In this Third Level Test 1, she is wearing a double bridle for the first time in competition. For the first time, Cindy could comfortably sit her big trot.

Only Jessica's Toby can manage to look bedraggled and attractive at the same time. This photo was taken at a much sunnier and warmer place - a place each competitor, at one time or another, wished they could be this weekend!

April 13 ~ Sunday

The top blew out of the sky today, with wind gusts up to 30+ miles an hour. The arenas dried out quickly and the dust -- not to mention larger objects -- went flying. The ealiest pair to test the weather were Cindy and Ravel, who received a 7 in Gaits and, given the wind, an unexpected but welcome 7 in the free walk.Cindy on Ravel
The judge praised Jessica's "elegant position" on her "lovely mare" in their Fourth Level Test 1. She awarded them 7s for Gaits and Impulsion, an 8 for collected canter, and 7s for shoulder-in and counter canter.

Late in the day, when all of us had had just about as much wind as we could take, Jodie and Pallas rose to the occasion and turned in a nice First Level Test 4 ride.
If you look closely, you'll see Morgan in the background taping the ride. Once again, we thank Morgan for being such a supportive groom, videographer, and companion!
